After seeing some beautiful Levitation photographs on StephanyAllison’s blog I had to try the technique out. I took advantage of having Maeve over for the evening to get the creativity going with a more than willing co-conspirator.
The limitations of the shoot were the time we started (10.30pm – talk about spontaneous creativity!), the restriction to the flat (it was REALLY cold out) and we didn’t have access to proper lighting due to lack of batteries for the flash gun. The flat is not small but the areas with enough space to do a good shot are few so we worked with what we had.
This is me levitating in the living room. I really like how much space there is below me and the shadow. The relaxed attitude in the feet, hands and head really adds to the effect of me by held up by an invisible force.
Here is Maeve, she is a bit more rigid which gives a different effect again.
Here we used the sofa so the effect is of levitating up off the sofa, I again went for the relaxed almost asleep pose.
This makes me laugh as it does really look like she’s bombing onto the sofa though was taken in the same way as the others and edited in photoshop afterwards.
And just for fun….
Who knew making a cuppa could be so exciting?
This shot really exemplifies the need for a simple set up, too much background visual information and the levitation effect gets lost in the entire image.
Now that we have the technique down we want to do a more exciting shoot in a different location with a bit more planning. This is a seriously fun shoot to do wherever you stage it though!

Turned out great! Thanks for the mention of my blog in the post by the way
Thank you! And no problem, cheers for the advice was spot on!
